Bass frenzy

Every now & then I get to fish in Poseidon’s play ground. ( an MOD Mark, enough said) It never disappoints!!!! while most of the guys fish there are on bait and do really well, I mostly go light. ( LRF)

Last Tuesday I went with Danny & his brother. Danny & I went light and a two hours session  produced a manic 20 minutes of 2lb Bass 6 total (three each). We also managed about 50  Pollock between us & a wee flounder.

“I see you brought your kids rod long mate” ( the kit I use)

I’ve had a few so called hard core anglers take the Piss out of my gear, it’s probably fair enough as it does look like flimsy kit but I enjoy it and thats all that matters.

will add images soon but I thought a quick bit of info on the gear I fish with might be useful to someone

My main rods are specialist Japanese  from Nories Imported by www.artoffishing.co.uk

Rock Fish Bottom Ultra Light 610ULS 1.7g -7g good for 1g – 10g in my opinion but don’t hold me to that. This is my favourite LRF rod I’ve had a few 2lb Bass on the the UL. If I could only choose one rod to fish for the rest of my life this would be it……..who knows it might be the sandwave tomorrow luckily I won’t have to choose.

Rock Fish Bottom Jighead Snapper 7’10” jigging up to 42g casting imho 1g- 15g Strange rod solid tip but feels like it could raise a dead horse. My Soft plastic rod for LRF & Wrasse as long as the ground is not too rough.

‘FlatFish Program’ Sand Wave 74 7g -21g top rod! Power, bend,Power Bend, I love it.

4  Slow Retrieve 710F updated 0.8g – 5.5g  powerful & bendy built for big than normal LRF fish but fun all round.

5  Flat fish program rough surf 88    10 -40g I love the distance & power of this rod with great sensitivity

I also have a

Rein Raz Ajiringer- Z 8’0 0.6g -8g  a good solid tip rod at a reasonable price  that really shows it’s power with a decent size fish on but bends like crazy with a goby.     available from Mr fish Jersey

The reels are also fairly light weight & small

Shimano Rarenium CI4 3000 FSA with three spools currently loaded with

Finesse Fishing Plymouth

Well is time I put together a blog to keep track of the Methods  I use to hunt a catch rock fish from the Shores of Devon & Cornwall. This Blog will be a Photo journal with a bit of a mix of styles. I will mostly  fish LRF , HRF &  Lures . By trade I’m a photographer but really struggle to mix the two  at the same so many of my images are taken with an Iphone 4 ( cringe) I know but for me it has to be one or the other and in my time off it’s fishing 100%

In short I don’t use live bait, only soft or hard plastic lures. For me thats the attraction, the hunt! 99% of the fish I catch will be released unharmed. (Catch & release)

LRF is a term coined in Japan as LIGHT ROCK FISHING. Light being the optimum word with lures in the 1g or less category up to 7g in the case of my rods. This has to be my favourite style. For me  its all about the feel resulting  in catching a fish or two. In general I won’t name my marks but  some popular fishing areas will be mentioned. I started proper Ultra light fishing or LRF late 2010. It was first picked up & introduced in late 2009 helped along by a few specialist angling shops. Art of Fishing & MR Fish Jersey

I would credit Jersey Bass Guides (JBG) for their endless quest to find new ways of presentation resulting in many species along with a few other dedicated blogs which I will eventually link this site to.

HRF Also coined in Japan is short for HARD ROCK FISHING.

PLUGGING is a general term for lure fishing.

I would prefer not to categorise my fishing styles to I use the term finesse fishing. I think this term covers all styles as even when lure fishing the rod I currently use is particularly light weight  with a casting weight of 7g- 20g  the Nories Flatfish program. I will go into more detail about my equipment in a later blog.
